On an overcast day on Wednesday Sept 21st, a little after 4 p.m, the whole school headed by the
Cadet Corps left the school premises at High Street and marched to Petaling Hill where the boys
were formed up on the platform in front of the foundation stone. On the right of the stone an
attap covering had been erected over the seats reserved for the distinguished visitors and the
staff. His Highness the Sultan of Selangor was received by the Headmaster, Mr G. C. Davies, and
after the general salute had been given, the inspection of the Cadet Corps and the Boy Scouts
followed.
Dr R. O. Winstedt, the Director of Education, in calling on the Sultan to lay the foundation stone said that His Highness had been invited to lay the foundation stone of the new buildings for the chief English school in the State of Selangor. In reply, His Highness said that he was happy to see so many people present. He hoped that all the pupils would study hard in order to be clever to help their parents. Moving to the foundation stone, His Highness was presented with a silver trowel by the architects and then laid the stone, declaring it to be "well and truly laid". He addressed the spectators again, saying that the weather was perfect that afternoon - not too hot and without rain. He said that he had planted, in effect, a "tree", which he hoped, would flourish in time. The sultan expressed the wish that the new school would progress and make itself a good name. The headmaster then rose to make his speech and at the end of it, the Sultan left the platform with the Chief Secretary, the British Resident and the Director of Education.
