On the occasion of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on June 2,
1953, the School was decorated and floodlit like many buildings in Kuala
Lumpur. A crimson "E II R" sign was mounted under the lighted front face of
the school clock ("E R" were abbreviations of "Elizabeth Regina", Latin
for Queen Elizabeth; the Roman numerals II stood for Second). Classrooms
were adorned with streamers and buntings. Standard 8D won the prize for
best decorated room - a portrait of Queen Elizabeth.
On Coronation Eve ice cream was distributed to all pupils, except the muslim pupils as it was fasting month then. In the afternoon a variety concert was staged by the Society of Drama and the headmaster addressed the school on the significance of the occasion. After that the school sang "God Save the Queen" and adjourned for a week long holiday.
