The Minister of Education, Encik Hussein Onn and his wife, Puan Suhailah, were the guests of honour at the V.I. Speech Day on 29th March. In his report, the Headmaster, Mr Somasundram, reminded parents that examination results alone were not sufficient in education. The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and the President of the VIOBA, Mr S. Robert, also addressed the audience. The Minister of Education, addressing the audience, congratulated the school on its achievements and announced that, owing to the greatly increased importance of Bahasa Malaysia, the Government would introduce an oral paper in the MCE the following year. After the prize giving, the school choir rendered some sentimental songs. The guests, parents and pupils then adjourned to the reading room for some refreshments. The final item in the programme was a tattoo display by the VICC Band.
