Teachers in School Concert 1966

For the 1966 Speech Day concert the V.I. staff decided to stage a surprise item, a sketch of a group of pupils (played by the staff) of a fictitious class (Lower 6 A3) ruled over by a tyrannical teacher (played a V.I. prefect, Vinayak Pradhan). Rehearsals were held secretly in the staff room and the item was sprung on the audience as the final item on the night of the concert.

The curtains parted to show a classroom scene with a group of rowdy VI boys and girls seated with their backs to the audience. When the "teacher" entered the class he gave a dressing down to some oppositional students played by Messrs Bernard Koay and Edward Dorall. It was only when the exasperated teacher finally got the pupils to stand up, turn around and march off that it struck the astonished audience that these naughty pupils - dressed unmistakably as VI boys and girls, with a bit more girth, doubtless - were actually the familiar teachers whom they saw every day!
