First Laxamana Cup Match 1949

In 1949, the Tengku Laxamana of Selangor (who ascended the throne in 1960 as Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah) donated a challenge trophy for an annual football match between his old School, the Malay College, Kuala Kangsar, and the V. I. This became a keenly fought contest until 1974 when it was scrapped.

The inaugural match was to have started at 5 p.m. on 12th March but heavy rain caused a postponement to 10 a.m. the following day. A large crowd was present at the match. The Victorians showed poor finishing skills as they did everything but score and, by half-time, the MCKK footballers were leading one-nil. In the last ten minutes of the match, the Victorians redoubled their efforts and lay siege to the MCKK goal. One minute from full time, they were rewarded when forward E. Pachymuthu equalized to salvage a 1-1 draw for the School.

Her Highness, the Tengku Ampuan, presented the trophy to both Captains after the match. The School Captain then called for three cheers for Her Highness after the presentation.

The following represented the School: Abdul Latif, Mohd. Amin, Fong Ying Hong, T. Rajendram, Zain Ariffin, Mahmud, Mok Yuen Kan, D. Pathansali (Captain), E. Pachymuthu, R. S. McCoy and Low Hock Chye.
