An extraordinary assembly was held at the School Hall to celebrate Teachers' Day. The Headmaster, Encik Abdul Rahim Che Teh, escorted three distinguished guests of honour - Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr S. Robert, President of the VIOBA and Encik Adnan bin Abdullah, Chairman of the Parent-Teachers Association - to the stage. After reading a message from the Minister of Education, the Headmaster addressed the school. He said that as no single teacher could fulfil all the roles expected of him or her, all teachers should collectively measure up to the aspirations and high expectations of parents, society and the government. He was followed by Mr Robert who thanked all teachers who had dedicated themselves to prepare the citizens of tomorrow. The Headmaster then gave out tokens of appreciation to various teachers. The School Captain in turn presented a gift to the teachers on behalf of all Victorians. A group of Lower Sixth girls then sang two songs dedicated to the teachers. The assembly ended with the singing of the Negara-Ku. The teachers and pupils then dispersed to compete in tug-of-war, volleyball and table tennis contests against each other. That over everyone returned to the Hall and helped themselves to the food laid out there. Thus the day ended with much laughter and fun. |
