The V.I. Picture of the Month - September 2001

Here we pull out a scanned picture from our collection or contributors that is related to either the V.I. past or present. If you have any interesting photo or picture about the V.I. or Victorians that you would like to share in this section, please do send the scanned image in GIF or JPEG format, together with a short write up on it to ooibk@pop.jaring.my.

The V.I. won the Thomson Cup, symbol of InterSchool football supremacy by beating the M.B.S.K.L. 1 - 0 in the finals at the T.P.C.A. stadium. A large crowd which included the Chief Justice, Mr. S. J. Thomas, the Headmaster, Mr. F. L. Shaw and the V.I. staff, saw a keenly contested game.

Amidst deafening cheers, Mr. Thomas presented the Cup to the V.I. Football Captain, Kum Pak, who was then shouldered off the field.

The Cup was presented in 1926 by the then British Resident, Mr. H. W. Thomson, and has since been won by the M.B.S. 4 times, the St John's Institution twice and the V.I. twice.
