Two Russian cosmonauts were welcomed to the school in a visit on September 13 arranged by the Ministry of Education and the V. I. Astronomy Society. They were accompanied to the V.I. by a team of reporters and TV cameramen. The cosmonauts had been in Kuala Lumpur for the Sumur City Aerospace Adventure project. In the lecture theatre, using slides as illustration, Musa Manorov and Alexander Srebrov related to a group of 300 Victorians and teachers their experience of living in the Russian Space Station, Mir. The cosmonauts then fielded questions from the audience. At the end of their talk, many pupils rushed to pose for photographs with the visitors. Gifts were also exchanged. The visitors were presented with the book The Victoria Institution - The First Century by the Senior Assistant for Pupils' Affairs, Tuan Haji Syed Abu Hassan and, in turn, the two visitors presented the school with souvenir badges of Russian cosmonauts. |
