The V.I. won the finals of the special inter-schools edition of Rediffusion "Silver Quiz Time" beating the M.B.S. by 203 points to 155. The quiz was sponsored by the K.L. Rotary Club in conjunction with Rediffusion and City Book Store. The quiz master was Tom Frost of Rediffusion while the judges were Rotarians Vic Hutson, Panikkar and Capt. Mohd. Ali. For ten weeks the senior pupils of twelve K.L schools had competed against each other in the elimination rounds. The final "Battle of the Brains" was a thrilling duel at the British Council hall between the traditional rivals. The victorious team, which comprised (above, from right) Miss Goh Yoon Fong, Ooi Boon Seng, Mohd. Noor Ghani, M. Shanmughalingam (Captain), A. Krishen Jit, and Rollins Bonney, received a trophy, $160 worth of book tokens and $60 cash. Ooi Boon Keng (extreme left) from the M.B.S. team is seen offering his congratulations to the Victorians. Shanmughalingam said after the competition, "We were just lucky to win it. The questions were rather stiff but we found them interesting. It was all a lot of fun and full of variety." |
