An impromptu assembly was held in the quadrangle on May 14, 1971, to bid farewell to the headmaster, Mr Tan Cheng Or. The school song was sung to accompaniment by the V.I.C.C. Band after which the School Captain, Yap Kian Fui,, presented a farewell gift to the headmaster. The headmaster expressed his thanks and spoke of his overwhelming sorrow at leaving the school. He then had a short discussion with the monitors of the various forms. The V.I.C.C. Band then struck up "Auld Lang Syne" which the entire school heartily joined in. At the close of this short but memorable occasion, the pupils trooped back to their respective classrooms.
