His Highness, the Sultan of Selangor laid the foundation stone of the VIOBA
Club House at 5.15 p.m. on 30th July, 1954. Among the Old Boys and well-wishers
at the ceremony were Her Highness, the Tengku Ampuan of Selangor, The President
of the VIOBA, Mr T. Rajendra, the architect of the building, Mr. E.S. Cooke
and the contractor, Mr. Yuen Peng Kong.
In his speech, the VIOBA president thanked the Sultan for granting the land on which the Club House was being built. He also traced the history of the Association since its foundation in 1922. Work would soon start on the first stage of the Club House, namely, the sitting room, the billiards room, an office and bath-rooms. The cost, excluding furniture, was estimated at $18,000. Sanitary installation and furniture would cost approximately another $7,500. Funds, estimated at another $13,000, were not available at the moment for the second stage - the Hall.
