Klang River Diversion (c. 1930)

Top: Aerial view of Kuala Lumpur. The MBSKL Sports field is at bottom, centre, while
the Sultan Street Railway Station is at bottom right, with Foch Avenue leading northwest
away from it. The KL Railway Station is at top left. The photograph shows the on-going
excavation to straighten the meandering Klang River, whose periodic floods were the bane
of the Old V.I. in High Street.

Bottom: A channel being dug to eliminate a loop of the Klang River (flowing westwards from
right to left), is aimed directly at the VI Headmaster's bungalow (H) which will be demolished.
The School Hall (4), together with Blocks 1, 2 and 3 will be spared for the Technical College.
R marks the part of the Klang River which will be filled in later to become River Road. S marks
Jalan Sekolah, off Sultan Street, the access road to the VI HM's bungalow, while P marks the
location of the present day Pasar Seni MRT Station. C, at right, is the Central Market.
