he expedition members met up at the Subang International Airport at 2.00 a.m. in the morning. They consisted of Anil Pal Singh, Chong Kee Keong, Jerry Wong Weng Keong, Darul Kisai, Foo Sek Hin, Tan Chun Hock, Abdul Qahhar Bin Abdul Wahid, Alvin Chua Ban Hua, Derek Daniel, Ng Hoon Yin and Lin Terk Yiang . We were accompanied by two teacher advisors, namely, Encik Sharudin b. Abdul Hadi and Encik Salehuddin b. Mustafa. We went through the check-in counter at 3.30 a.m. and then we went through customs without much hassle. We boarded the M.A.S. plane at approximately 4.30 a.m. It was a comfortable two and a half hour flight to the Kota Kinabalu Airport in Sabah. From the airport, we boarded a mini bus to the city of Kota Kinabalu where we rode in another mini bus to Ranau. We stopped at Menggatal for lunch. At 2.15 p.m. we continued our journey to the Sabah park, which took us another two hours. On arriving at about 4.20 p.m., we reported to the park authorities who gave us the keys to our temporary accommodation. Our team was divided into two groups occupying the two chalets which we were allocated. We then had dinner which we cooked ourselves. After that, we headed off for a brisk walk to the Ranau Hot Springs at 8.00 p.m. At around 8.45 p.m. we returned to our chalets to pack our expedition bags and went to bed early.

24 August 1995:

At 6.30 a.m. sharp, the team woke up, washed and had a light breakfast. We departed Pondok Timpohon for Sayat-sayat at 7.00 a.m. Throughout the journey, we passed six little huts. We stopped by at the Laban Rata restaurant to have lunch. We then continued the journey and arrived at Sayat-sayat at 3.00 p.m. There, we rested and prepared ourselves for the journey the next day.

25 August 1995:

We all woke up at 1.30 a.m. Our two guides met up with us to take us to Mount Kinabalu. We left our bags in our rooms at Sayat-sayat. Our journey commenced at 2.00 a.m. Throughout our hike up, we passed a few other peaks but Mount Kinabalu remained as our main objective. After three hours of non-stop hiking, we finally arrived at Low's Peak (the highest peak of Mount Kinabalu) and witnessed the sunrise. We remained there for one hour. Unfortunately, the temperature was too low and deemed too dangerous, so we could not stay longer. At 6:30 a.m., after taking photographs, we headed back to Sayat-sayat, which took us about three hours. There, we rested in our rooms for about two hours. At 11.30 a.m., we collected our belongings and began our journey down from Mount Kinabalu. Once again we stopped for lunch at Laban Rata. Continuing our journey at 12.30 p.m., we finally arrived back at our starting point, Sabah Park, at 4.00 p.m. From there, we hired a minibus that took us all the way to the city, Kota Kinabalu. Arriving there at 6.00 p.m., we rested at a school hostel where we bathed and changed our clothes. After that, we headed into the city for the night. At 9.30 a.m., we headed off to the Kota Kinabalu airport, where we arrived at 11.35 p.m. As our flight was scheduled for 4.00 a.m., most of us dozed at the airport while waiting for our flight home.

26 August 1995:

We readied ourselves to return to Kuala Lumpur when the boarding announcement was made at 4.00 a.m. We checked in, went through customs and boarded the plane. At 7.00 a.m., we arrived at the Subang International Airport. After leaving the plane and collecting our luggage, our successful expedition came to an end and we all returned home happy.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our Headmistress, Puan Robeahtun bt. Dato' Haji Ahmad Damanhuri, the Senior Assistant, Puan Fitriah bt. Yusof and the Senior Assistant (Student Affairs), Tuan Syed Abu Hassan as well as the teacher advisors of our Group and other people who have helped make this expedition a success.
